Ak-O-Mak offers the challenges of nature and life, along with camping and team and individual sports. A rustic camp, Ak-O-Mak helps instill "Old Values" in her campers through the challenging program.
The canoe trips, which every camper experiences, are a challenging and rewarding part of camp. The camp is located in a region of Ontario popular with canoeists, and the scenery is spectacular. The low-impact tripping program makes the trips resourceful experiences for the first-time and seasoned tripper alike. There are daily hiking trips, great fishing and time for appreciation of nature.
As a sports camp…
There is never a dull day at Ak-O-Mak. Individualized instruction and skill enhancement are provided in more than 24 different sports. Through participation, campers improve skills in their primary sports and become proficient in others.
Olympic development programs are offered in competitive swimming, running and canoeing/kayaking. Water sports include swimming, diving, water polo, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. Land sports include soccer, tennis, softball, golf, basketball and track & field. Competition includes sailing and paddling regattas, running races and swim meets.
While building strength, stamina, and flexibility the girls are also building self-confidence as they are given the leadership, guidance and coaching to do their best. Many of our instructors are champion athletes or teachers of champion athletes – they have the unique combination of skills and confidence to succeed in whatever they do.
Added opportunities/activities
Four, five and six-day canoe trips are taken at the end of each session. Competitive paddling regattas are held with canoe & kayak clubs from other regions of Ontario. Ak-O-Mak and her brother camp, Chikopi, get together about twice a week. Camp get-togethers may consist of celebrations, competitions or meals. Competition includes paddling and sailing regattas, triathlons, duathalons, a 12K road race, swim meets and open-water swims.
